Why IGI

Working with West Marsh businesses

We built the service around what business owners in places like West Marsh actually complain about: not knowing what the accountant will charge, finding out about a deadline after it has passed, and receiving a set of accounts with no explanation. Each is fixed by design: fixed fees, deadline tracking shown on every page, and a plain-English summary with every draft for West Marsh clients.

You get one contact for self assessment tax returns, not a queue. West Marsh clients message the same person throughout and get an answer in working hours, usually within a few hours.

No appointments, no travel across Yorkshire, no parking. Everything for self assessment tax returns in West Marsh happens online, with a real person on the other end during UK working hours.

Deadline-first: the dates that matter for self assessment tax returns are shown at the top of this page, diarised for every West Marsh client and chased before they arrive.

Worth knowing

Rules that affect most businesses here

The trading and property allowances

Not every small income needs a tax return. The trading allowance exempts the first £1,000 of self-employment or casual income and the property allowance does the same for rental income, each measured on gross receipts. They cannot be combined with rent-a-room relief on the same income, and claiming the allowance means giving up the expense deduction for that source.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax began in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000, extends to those over £30,000 in April 2027 and is planned for £20,000 in April 2028. It requires digital records in compatible software and four quarterly updates to HMRC each year, with a final declaration replacing the traditional return. Payment dates are unchanged.

Dormant companies

Companies formed to protect a name or hold a future business are dormant but not exempt: Companies House still expects dormant accounts within nine months of the year end and a confirmation statement annually with its £50 fee, and HMRC must be told the company is dormant or it will demand Corporation Tax returns. The filings are short, but the penalties for missing them are the same as for a trading company.

Late filing penalties

Penalties are the clearest reason to work to deadlines. A Self Assessment return one day late costs £100 regardless of whether any tax is due; three months late adds £10 a day. Late company accounts start at £150 and reach £1,500, and double if the previous year was also late. None of this is negotiable afterwards except through a narrow reasonable-excuse appeal.

Workplace pensions and auto-enrolment

Auto-enrolment duties begin the day you take on your first employee, not when the Pensions Regulator writes to you. Eligible staff must be enrolled, contributions paid every pay period and re-enrolment carried out every three years. Director-only companies without employment contracts are usually exempt. Fines for non-compliance are fixed and escalating.

Questions

Questions from West Marsh

Why are the fees the same in West Marsh as in London?

Because the cost of an accountant is mostly premises and that is a cost we do not have. The work is done online by UK-based staff, so a client in West Marsh pays exactly the published fee, as does a client in central London or a Highland village. The fee is confirmed in writing before anything starts.

Which services are available in West Marsh?

Every service on this page is available to businesses and individuals in West Marsh, at the fee shown. Core compliance work, accounts, tax returns, bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and company formation, is listed with its own local page. Specialist services such as R&D, crypto tax and HMRC enquiry support are national services delivered the same way from anywhere in the UK.

I already have an accountant in West Marsh. How hard is it to switch?

It takes about two weeks and costs nothing extra. You authorise us, we write to your current accountant for professional clearance and your records, and we transfer the agent authorisations. We pick up the next filing without a gap. You do not need to wait for a year end, and we tell you honestly if switching mid-job would be awkward.

Can you deal with HMRC and Companies House for me?

Yes. Once you authorise us as your agent, HMRC and Companies House correspond with us about the filings we make for your West Marsh business, and we can see your accounts and respond on your behalf. Authorisation is free and takes a few days to activate. Routine correspondence about work we have filed is handled at no extra charge.

Is self assessment tax returns in West Marsh really the same price as elsewhere?

Yes. The fee published on this page is what a client in West Marsh pays and what a client in any other part of England pays. It is confirmed in writing before work starts and the invoice matches the quote. Where a higher package applies because your situation is more complex, we say so at the quote stage, never afterwards.

Do you have an office in West Marsh?

No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve West Marsh and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for self assessment tax returns is the same in West Marsh as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.
