Specialist tax: CIS, R&D, crypto, capital gains, property and HMRC enquiries
Fixed-fee specialist tax work: CIS returns and refunds, R&D claims, crypto and capital gains reports, landlord accounts and HMRC investigation support.
Specialist tax work is where general accountants most often get out of their depth and where fixed fees are rarest. Each area in this group has its own rules, its own HMRC forms and its own traps: CIS deductions and gross payment status, the R&D scheme after the 2024 merger, pooling rules for crypto assets, the 60-day property CGT return, finance-cost restrictions for landlords, and the procedural rights you have when HMRC opens an enquiry.
We publish a fixed fee for each, scaled by complexity in a way you can check yourself: number of properties, number of crypto transactions, size of the R&D spend, stage of the HMRC enquiry. The quote confirms which package applies before we start, and the fee does not change if the work takes longer than we expected.
Specialist services are available as local pages for the larger towns and cities and as a national service everywhere else, because the work is done online in exactly the same way wherever you are. Records come by WhatsApp or email, computations go back for approval with the reasoning explained, and nothing is filed until you have signed it off.

Questions
Questions about specialist tax
Can you do a one-off specialist job if someone else does my accounts?
Yes. Most crypto reports, capital gains computations and R&D claims are done alongside another accountant's year-end work. We provide the figures and the supporting report in a form your accountant can drop straight into the return, or we file the relevant pages ourselves if you prefer.
How do you price an HMRC enquiry when nobody knows how long it will take?
By stage. The first stage, reviewing the letter and preparing the opening response, is £299 fixed. If the enquiry continues we quote the next stage before it starts, so you always know the cost of carrying on versus settling. We never bill by the hour on investigations.
Is the R&D eligibility review really free?
Yes, and it sometimes ends with us telling you there is no claim, which is the point. Since the merged scheme and HMRC's compliance campaign, speculative claims attract enquiries and penalties. We only proceed to the £999 full claim when the project meets the definition of R&D for tax purposes.
Not sure which service you need?
