Refunds

Last updated 3 November 2026

The principle

You pay for work, not for time. If we have not started a piece of work, you owe nothing. If we have started it and you cancel, you pay for the stage we have reached. If we have filed it, the work is done and the fee is due. This page sets out how that applies to each kind of service.

One-off services

One-off services include tax returns, sets of accounts, Companies House filings, registrations, reports and planning reviews. The fee is confirmed in writing before we start and is invoiced when you approve the draft, before filing.

Companies House and HMRC fees that we have already paid on your behalf are not refundable, because those bodies do not refund them to us.

Monthly services

Monthly packages, such as bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns and the industry packages, are paid monthly in advance and can be ended by either party with one month's written notice. There is no minimum term. Where notice is given part-way through a month, the service continues to the end of the notice period and no refund is made for that period. Any annual filing in progress at the end of the engagement is completed at the published fee for that filing if you ask us to, or handed over to your new adviser with the work done to date.

Where a monthly fee has been collected in error, or for a period after an engagement has ended, it is refunded in full within five working days of our noticing or your telling us.

Registered office and annual services

The registered office service and the annual confirmation statement service are paid annually in advance. If you cancel within the first 30 days and we have not yet filed anything using the service, the fee is refunded in full less any Companies House fee paid. After 30 days, or once a filing has been made, the annual fee is not refundable, but the service continues to the end of the paid period and we file the change of address if you move away from us.

Cooling-off period for consumers

If you are contracting as a consumer rather than in the course of a business, which applies to most personal Self Assessment clients, you have the right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 to cancel within 14 days of agreeing the engagement without giving a reason. If you ask us to start work within those 14 days, which most clients do because of deadlines, and then cancel, you pay a proportionate amount for the work done up to cancellation, calculated as above. To cancel, email info@igiaccounting.co.uk stating that you wish to cancel; no form is required.

If we are at fault

If we have made an error in work we have filed, we correct it at no charge and we meet any HMRC or Companies House penalty that results directly from our error. If we have failed to deliver a service as described, we refund the fee for that service in full. This does not affect your statutory rights.

How refunds are paid

Refunds are made to the account or card from which the payment was received, within five working days of the refund being agreed. We will confirm the amount and the date in writing.
