Why IGI
Working with Walterston businesses
Clients in Walterston are not a branch or a territory to us; they are files handled by the same team that serves the rest of the UK, at the same price. The fee you see is confirmed in writing before work starts. The dates you see are diarised and chased. And the person who prepares your first return is the person who prepares the next one.
A named person handles your self assessment tax returns from Walterston and knows the file, so you are not re-explaining your business to a different helpdesk each time.
We serve Walterston remotely by design: records by WhatsApp or email, drafts back for approval, filing electronic. The saving on premises is passed to you in the fee for self assessment tax returns.
Nothing for Walterston is left to the last week. Each deadline relevant to self assessment tax returns is tracked from the day you join, with the next four shown on every page we send you.

About Walterston
Walterston sits in Wales. Businesses in Wales file with the same HMRC and Companies House as England, and for now the Welsh rates of income tax equal the English ones, though the Senedd can vary them. The practical differences are Land Transaction Tax on property and Welsh-specific business support schemes, and company names and documents may be in Welsh.

Worth knowing
Rules that affect most businesses here
The 60-day property CGT return
Since April 2020 a gain on UK residential property must be reported and the tax paid within 60 days of completion through HMRC's dedicated service, separately from the annual return. Non-residents must report all UK land disposals in the same window whether or not tax is due. Getting the computation right first time matters because the figure is then carried into the Self Assessment.
Crypto records and reporting
Most crypto holders have taxable events they do not recognise, because every swap is a disposal even when no pounds change hands. The computation requires the complete transaction history from every exchange and wallet, pooled by asset with HMRC's matching rules applied. Exchange-generated tax reports are frequently wrong because they cannot see transfers between a user's own wallets.
Closing a company
Striking off a company is cheap but must be done in order: stop trading, file the final accounts and CT600, pay the tax, close VAT and PAYE, distribute the remaining assets, close the bank account, then apply. Anything left in the company at dissolution passes to the Crown. Distributions up to £25,000 are taxed as capital gains; above that a formal liquidation is usually needed to keep capital treatment.
Switching accountants
Changing accountant is simpler than most people fear. You authorise the new firm, which writes to the old one for professional clearance and your records; the outgoing accountant must hand over your own documents and usually does within two weeks. The new firm registers as your agent with HMRC and picks up the next filing. There is no need to wait for a year end.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax began in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000, extends to those over £30,000 in April 2027 and is planned for £20,000 in April 2028. It requires digital records in compatible software and four quarterly updates to HMRC each year, with a final declaration replacing the traditional return. Payment dates are unchanged.
Questions
Questions from Walterston
Why are the fees the same in Walterston as in London?
Because the cost of an accountant is mostly premises and that is a cost we do not have. The work is done online by UK-based staff, so a client in Walterston pays exactly the published fee, as does a client in central London or a Highland village. The fee is confirmed in writing before anything starts.
Which services are available in Walterston?
Every service on this page is available to businesses and individuals in Walterston, at the fee shown. Core compliance work, accounts, tax returns, bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and company formation, is listed with its own local page. Specialist services such as R&D, crypto tax and HMRC enquiry support are national services delivered the same way from anywhere in the UK.
I already have an accountant in Walterston. How hard is it to switch?
It takes about two weeks and costs nothing extra. You authorise us, we write to your current accountant for professional clearance and your records, and we transfer the agent authorisations. We pick up the next filing without a gap. You do not need to wait for a year end, and we tell you honestly if switching mid-job would be awkward.
Can you deal with HMRC and Companies House for me?
Yes. Once you authorise us as your agent, HMRC and Companies House correspond with us about the filings we make for your Walterston business, and we can see your accounts and respond on your behalf. Authorisation is free and takes a few days to activate. Routine correspondence about work we have filed is handled at no extra charge.
Is self assessment tax returns in Walterston really the same price as elsewhere?
Yes. The fee published on this page is what a client in Walterston pays and what a client in any other part of Wales pays. It is confirmed in writing before work starts and the invoice matches the quote. Where a higher package applies because your situation is more complex, we say so at the quote stage, never afterwards.
Do you have an office in Walterston?
No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve Walterston and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for self assessment tax returns is the same in Walterston as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.
