Services

What we do for Scaldwell and what it costs

The eight core services below each have a page for Scaldwell; specialist and advisory services are delivered nationally and are listed further down. Every fee is fixed and confirmed in writing before work starts.

Why IGI

Working with Scaldwell businesses

We built the service around what business owners in places like Scaldwell actually complain about: not knowing what the accountant will charge, finding out about a deadline after it has passed, and receiving a set of accounts with no explanation. Each is fixed by design: fixed fees, deadline tracking shown on every page, and a plain-English summary with every draft for Scaldwell clients.

You stay in control of self assessment tax returns: drafts go to Scaldwell clients first, with the figures explained, and nothing leaves us until you say so.

Plain English, with the numbers. Every draft for Scaldwell comes with a short explanation of what the figures mean and what, if anything, you should do about them.

Deadline-first: the dates that matter for self assessment tax returns are shown at the top of this page, diarised for every Scaldwell client and chased before they arrive.

About Scaldwell

Scaldwell sits in East Midlands. For businesses in England the tax rules are those set by the UK Parliament: the 20/40/45% income tax bands, Class 4 National Insurance for the self-employed at 6% and 2%, Corporation Tax at 19% to 25%, and Stamp Duty Land Tax on property. Business rates are set locally by the council.

Worth knowing

Rules that affect most businesses here

The 60-day property CGT return

Selling UK residential property that was not your main home for the whole period of ownership triggers a separate Capital Gains Tax return, due within 60 days of completion along with payment of the tax. This is in addition to the annual Self Assessment. The gain is taxed at 18% or 24% depending on your income band, after the £3,000 annual exempt amount.

Crypto records and reporting

Crypto tax splits into capital gains on disposals and income on rewards, with different rates and different reporting. The £3,000 annual exempt amount and the 18% and 24% rates apply to gains; staking, mining and airdrop income is taxed at marginal income tax rates. HMRC's nudge letters to holders have increased sharply, and a voluntary disclosure before one arrives is treated far more leniently.

CIS deductions

CIS turns construction subcontractors into advance taxpayers: a fifth of every labour payment goes to HMRC before they see it. Registering keeps the rate at 20% rather than 30%; gross payment status, for established businesses with a clean record, removes deductions altogether. The annual return is where the overpayment comes back, and filing it early brings the refund sooner.

Allowable expenses

An expense is allowable against trading profit if it is incurred wholly and exclusively for the business. Materials, business travel other than ordinary commuting, a proportion of home running costs, software, insurance, professional fees, bank charges and protective clothing qualify. Client entertainment, ordinary clothing, fines and the private share of mixed-use costs do not.

Confirmation statements and identity verification

The confirmation statement is the annual check that the public register is right: officers, registered office, SIC codes, shareholders and the PSC register. It carries a £50 fee and no financial penalty for lateness, but failure to file leads to compulsory strike-off. The identity verification regime introduced in November 2025 has added a further check to every statement.

Questions

Questions from Scaldwell

Are your fees inclusive of everything?

Our fee covers the work described for the package. Companies House fees, such as £100 to incorporate or £50 for a confirmation statement, are charged separately and passed on at cost. Software subscriptions are in your own name. There is nothing else: no hourly extras, no charge for questions, and no additional year-end invoice for Scaldwell clients on monthly packages.

How quickly do you respond?

In UK working hours, usually within a few hours and always the same working day. Each Scaldwell client has a named contact who knows the file. Outside working hours, WhatsApp and email messages are picked up first thing the next morning. In January and at other peak times we tell you your turnaround when you book rather than leaving you guessing.

Do you work with businesses in East Midlands that are not in Scaldwell itself?

Yes. Every place in East Midlands has its own page on this site and the same fees apply throughout. The nearest-places list on this page links to them. Wherever in England your business is based, the service is identical because none of it depends on where you are.

What if my Scaldwell business is a partnership or an LLP?

Both are covered. Partnerships need a partnership return and a Self Assessment for each partner; LLPs file accounts with Companies House under company-style rules as well. We quote a fixed fee for the set based on the number of partners or members, and the process is the same as for any other client in Scaldwell: records in, draft out, approve, filed.

How do I get started from Scaldwell?

Message us on WhatsApp or email with a sentence about your business and what you need. We reply in working hours with any questions and a fixed fee for self assessment tax returns. Once you confirm, we tell you exactly which records to send and the work begins. Most Scaldwell clients are set up within a day.

Which deadlines matter most for self assessment tax returns?

The next four dates that apply to self assessment tax returns are shown at the top of this page, calculated from today. For Scaldwell clients we diarise every one of them from the day you join and send reminders before each, so the work is done in good time rather than in the last week before a penalty.
