Why IGI

Working with Pen-y-clawdd businesses

We built the service around what business owners in places like Pen-y-clawdd actually complain about: not knowing what the accountant will charge, finding out about a deadline after it has passed, and receiving a set of accounts with no explanation. Each is fixed by design: fixed fees, deadline tracking shown on every page, and a plain-English summary with every draft for Pen-y-clawdd clients.

Nothing is filed for Pen-y-clawdd until you have reviewed and approved it. You see the draft, you ask questions, you sign off, then we submit and send you the receipt.

We explain self assessment tax returns in the words Pen-y-clawdd business owners use, not in accountant's shorthand, and we show our working so you can check it.

We work to the HMRC and Companies House calendar, not an appointment diary. Clients in Pen-y-clawdd get reminders at 60, 30 and 7 days before each date that applies to self assessment tax returns.

About Pen-y-clawdd

Pen-y-clawdd sits in Wales. Businesses in Wales file with the same HMRC and Companies House as England, and for now the Welsh rates of income tax equal the English ones, though the Senedd can vary them. The practical differences are Land Transaction Tax on property and Welsh-specific business support schemes, and company names and documents may be in Welsh.

Worth knowing

Rules that affect most businesses here

Payments on account

Payments on account catch out most people in their second year of self-employment. HMRC assumes next year's tax will match this year's and collects half in January and half in July, in advance, on top of the balancing payment. If profits are dropping you can apply to reduce them, but reducing them too far attracts interest. We calculate the right figure rather than guessing.

The Self Assessment calendar

Self Assessment runs on a fixed annual cycle. Registration by 5 October following the tax year, online filing and payment by 31 January, and a second instalment on 31 July for those making payments on account. The penalties for lateness are automatic and escalate monthly, which is why we file early and chase approvals well before the window closes.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax began in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000, extends to those over £30,000 in April 2027 and is planned for £20,000 in April 2028. It requires digital records in compatible software and four quarterly updates to HMRC each year, with a final declaration replacing the traditional return. Payment dates are unchanged.

Late filing penalties

Penalties are the clearest reason to work to deadlines. A Self Assessment return one day late costs £100 regardless of whether any tax is due; three months late adds £10 a day. Late company accounts start at £150 and reach £1,500, and double if the previous year was also late. None of this is negotiable afterwards except through a narrow reasonable-excuse appeal.

Corporation Tax rates and marginal relief

Companies pay Corporation Tax at 19% on profits up to £50,000 and 25% on profits over £250,000. Between those figures marginal relief applies, producing an effective rate that rises gradually and a marginal rate of 26.5% on each pound in the band. The thresholds are divided by the number of associated companies, so a director with two companies has thresholds of £25,000 and £125,000 for each.

Questions

Questions from Pen-y-clawdd

I already have an accountant in Pen-y-clawdd. How hard is it to switch?

It takes about two weeks and costs nothing extra. You authorise us, we write to your current accountant for professional clearance and your records, and we transfer the agent authorisations. We pick up the next filing without a gap. You do not need to wait for a year end, and we tell you honestly if switching mid-job would be awkward.

Can you deal with HMRC and Companies House for me?

Yes. Once you authorise us as your agent, HMRC and Companies House correspond with us about the filings we make for your Pen-y-clawdd business, and we can see your accounts and respond on your behalf. Authorisation is free and takes a few days to activate. Routine correspondence about work we have filed is handled at no extra charge.

Why are the fees the same in Pen-y-clawdd as in London?

Because the cost of an accountant is mostly premises and that is a cost we do not have. The work is done online by UK-based staff, so a client in Pen-y-clawdd pays exactly the published fee, as does a client in central London or a Highland village. The fee is confirmed in writing before anything starts.

Which services are available in Pen-y-clawdd?

Every service on this page is available to businesses and individuals in Pen-y-clawdd, at the fee shown. Core compliance work, accounts, tax returns, bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and company formation, is listed with its own local page. Specialist services such as R&D, crypto tax and HMRC enquiry support are national services delivered the same way from anywhere in the UK.

How do I get started from Pen-y-clawdd?

Which deadlines matter most for self assessment tax returns?

The next four dates that apply to self assessment tax returns are shown at the top of this page, calculated from today. For Pen-y-clawdd clients we diarise every one of them from the day you join and send reminders before each, so the work is done in good time rather than in the last week before a penalty.
