Why IGI

Working with Juniper businesses

An online firm suits Juniper because the things that matter in accounting, accuracy, deadlines, clear explanations and a known price, do not depend on geography. What does depend on geography is overhead, and by not carrying it we charge Juniper clients the published fee and nothing more, with every submission approved by you before it goes.

Nothing is filed for Juniper until you have reviewed and approved it. You see the draft, you ask questions, you sign off, then we submit and send you the receipt.

We explain self assessment tax returns in the words Juniper business owners use, not in accountant's shorthand, and we show our working so you can check it.

Continuity matters in self assessment tax returns: the person who prepared last year's work for your Juniper business prepares this year's, and remembers what was agreed.

Worth knowing

Rules that affect most businesses here

Allowable expenses

The expenses sole traders most often miss are home working costs, claimed by actual proportion or HMRC's flat rate, the business share of phone and internet, mileage at 45p for the first 10,000 business miles, and training that maintains existing skills. The ones most often claimed wrongly are commuting, entertaining customers and clothes that could be worn outside work.

Record keeping

Record keeping is a legal obligation with a penalty of up to £3,000 for failure, but its real value is in making every other filing cheaper and more defensible. Keep invoices, receipts, bank statements, mileage logs and any HMRC correspondence, digitally if you like, for five years after the relevant filing deadline for individuals and six years for companies and VAT.

The 60-day property CGT return

The 60-day Capital Gains Tax return on residential property is the deadline landlords most often miss, because it falls outside the Self Assessment cycle and runs from completion, not exchange. Private residence relief for periods you lived in the property, plus the final nine months, reduces the gain. Penalties for a late return mirror Self Assessment, starting at £100.

Crypto records and reporting

HMRC treats cryptoassets as property. Swapping one token for another, spending crypto or gifting it are all disposals for Capital Gains Tax, and staking and lending rewards are income. Gains are computed under pooling rules with same-day and 30-day matching. From 2026 HMRC receives data from exchanges worldwide under the Cryptoasset Reporting Framework, so unreported activity is increasingly visible.

The trading and property allowances

The first £1,000 of trading income and, separately, the first £1,000 of property income each year is tax free under the trading and property allowances. Below those figures no return is needed for that income. Above them you can deduct the £1,000 allowance instead of actual expenses if that is better, which suits side businesses and single-room lets with few costs.

Questions

Questions from Juniper

Can you deal with HMRC and Companies House for me?

Yes. Once you authorise us as your agent, HMRC and Companies House correspond with us about the filings we make for your Juniper business, and we can see your accounts and respond on your behalf. Authorisation is free and takes a few days to activate. Routine correspondence about work we have filed is handled at no extra charge.

Do you work with businesses in North East that are not in Juniper itself?

Yes. Every place in North East has its own page on this site and the same fees apply throughout. The nearest-places list on this page links to them. Wherever in England your business is based, the service is identical because none of it depends on where you are.

What if my Juniper business is a partnership or an LLP?

Both are covered. Partnerships need a partnership return and a Self Assessment for each partner; LLPs file accounts with Companies House under company-style rules as well. We quote a fixed fee for the set based on the number of partners or members, and the process is the same as for any other client in Juniper: records in, draft out, approve, filed.

Are your fees inclusive of everything?

Our fee covers the work described for the package. Companies House fees, such as £100 to incorporate or £50 for a confirmation statement, are charged separately and passed on at cost. Software subscriptions are in your own name. There is nothing else: no hourly extras, no charge for questions, and no additional year-end invoice for Juniper clients on monthly packages.

Is self assessment tax returns in Juniper really the same price as elsewhere?

Yes. The fee published on this page is what a client in Juniper pays and what a client in any other part of England pays. It is confirmed in writing before work starts and the invoice matches the quote. Where a higher package applies because your situation is more complex, we say so at the quote stage, never afterwards.

Do you have an office in Juniper?

No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve Juniper and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for self assessment tax returns is the same in Juniper as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.
