Why IGI
Working with Fordell Firs businesses
Clients in Fordell Firs are not a branch or a territory to us; they are files handled by the same team that serves the rest of the UK, at the same price. The fee you see is confirmed in writing before work starts. The dates you see are diarised and chased. And the person who prepares your first return is the person who prepares the next one.
Continuity matters in self assessment tax returns: the person who prepared last year's work for your Fordell Firs business prepares this year's, and remembers what was agreed.
Online only, UK based. There is no office in Fordell Firs to pay for, which is why the fee is the same here as anywhere in Scotland; the work is done by people in the UK who answer the same day.
We work to the HMRC and Companies House calendar, not an appointment diary. Clients in Fordell Firs get reminders at 60, 30 and 7 days before each date that applies to self assessment tax returns.

About Fordell Firs
Fordell Firs sits in Scotland. Tax in Scotland differs from the rest of the UK on earned income: six bands with a 21% intermediate rate and a 48% top rate, identified by an S prefix on the tax code. The interaction between Scottish rates on salary and UK rates on dividends makes the salary-and-dividend split for Scottish directors a distinct calculation, and Land and Buildings Transaction Tax replaces Stamp Duty.

Worth knowing
Rules that affect most businesses here
CIS deductions
The Construction Industry Scheme affects both sides of a construction payment. Contractors must verify subcontractors, deduct the right amount, issue statements and file monthly, with penalties from £100 for each late return. Subcontractors suffer deductions on turnover and recover the excess at the year end. Limited company subcontractors offset deductions against PAYE monthly instead.
Confirmation statements and identity verification
Companies House has tightened its requirements under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act: every company needs a registered email address and an appropriate registered office, every statement includes a lawful-purpose declaration, and every director and PSC must verify their identity. The confirmation statement, due annually with a £50 fee, is where most of this is confirmed.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
The biggest change to Self Assessment in a generation is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, now live for higher-earning sole traders and landlords and arriving for the rest in stages. Quarterly updates are due by 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May, built from digital records. The practical consequence is that spreadsheet-and-shoebox bookkeeping is ending for anyone above the threshold.
Late filing penalties
Lateness is expensive in a way that compounds. For individuals, £100 immediately, then daily penalties, then percentage-based ones at six and twelve months, with interest running on unpaid tax throughout. For companies, Companies House penalties scale with delay and double on repeat, and HMRC adds its own for a late CT600. Filing on time is the cheapest tax planning there is.
Payments on account
A common surprise in Self Assessment is the January payment that is far larger than expected. That is the balancing payment for the year just ended plus the first payment on account for the year ahead, which HMRC sets at half of the bill just calculated. We put the figure in your hands months ahead and tell you how to adjust it legitimately when circumstances change.
Questions
Questions from Fordell Firs
Do you work with businesses in Scotland that are not in Fordell Firs itself?
Yes. Every place in Scotland has its own page on this site and the same fees apply throughout. The nearest-places list on this page links to them. Wherever in Scotland your business is based, the service is identical because none of it depends on where you are.
What if my Fordell Firs business is a partnership or an LLP?
Both are covered. Partnerships need a partnership return and a Self Assessment for each partner; LLPs file accounts with Companies House under company-style rules as well. We quote a fixed fee for the set based on the number of partners or members, and the process is the same as for any other client in Fordell Firs: records in, draft out, approve, filed.
Are your fees inclusive of everything?
Our fee covers the work described for the package. Companies House fees, such as £100 to incorporate or £50 for a confirmation statement, are charged separately and passed on at cost. Software subscriptions are in your own name. There is nothing else: no hourly extras, no charge for questions, and no additional year-end invoice for Fordell Firs clients on monthly packages.
How quickly do you respond?
In UK working hours, usually within a few hours and always the same working day. Each Fordell Firs client has a named contact who knows the file. Outside working hours, WhatsApp and email messages are picked up first thing the next morning. In January and at other peak times we tell you your turnaround when you book rather than leaving you guessing.
Do you have an office in Fordell Firs?
No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve Fordell Firs and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for self assessment tax returns is the same in Fordell Firs as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.
How do I get started from Fordell Firs?
Message us on WhatsApp or email with a sentence about your business and what you need. We reply in working hours with any questions and a fixed fee for self assessment tax returns. Once you confirm, we tell you exactly which records to send and the work begins. Most Fordell Firs clients are set up within a day.
