Why IGI

The IGI way of working, in Sunderland

The price for accounting software support is published on this page and is what a client in Sunderland pays. We confirm it in writing first, and the invoice matches the quote.

Deadline-first: the dates that matter for accounting software support are shown at the top of this page, diarised for every Sunderland client and chased before they arrive.

Online only, UK based. There is no office in Sunderland to pay for, which is why the fee is the same here as anywhere in England; the work is done by people in the UK who answer the same day.

Continuity matters in accounting software support: the person who prepared last year's work for your Sunderland business prepares this year's, and remembers what was agreed.

Plain English, with the numbers. Every draft for Sunderland comes with a short explanation of what the figures mean and what, if anything, you should do about them.

You stay in control of accounting software support: drafts go to Sunderland clients first, with the figures explained, and nothing leaves us until you say so.

Worth knowing

Rules that come up in this work

Confirmation statements and identity verification

Companies House has tightened its requirements under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act: every company needs a registered email address and an appropriate registered office, every statement includes a lawful-purpose declaration, and every director and PSC must verify their identity. The confirmation statement, due annually with a £50 fee, is where most of this is confirmed.

CIS deductions

The Construction Industry Scheme affects both sides of a construction payment. Contractors must verify subcontractors, deduct the right amount, issue statements and file monthly, with penalties from £100 for each late return. Subcontractors suffer deductions on turnover and recover the excess at the year end. Limited company subcontractors offset deductions against PAYE monthly instead.

Salary versus dividends

The salary-and-dividend split is the central planning decision for an owner-managed company. Salary costs employer National Insurance above £5,000 but is deductible; dividends are not deductible but attract lower personal rates and no National Insurance. The optimum changes each April with the thresholds and depends on the director's other income, so it should be set deliberately every year.

Director's loan accounts

The most common tax problem in owner-managed companies is an overdrawn director's loan account: drawings taken during the year that were never declared as dividends or salary. The company faces a 35.75% charge on the balance outstanding nine months after the year end, and the director may have a benefit in kind. We review the account before every year end to clear it properly.

The VAT registration threshold

The £90,000 VAT threshold is measured over any twelve consecutive months, which is why a strong quarter can tip a business over unexpectedly. Registration must follow within thirty days of the end of the month the threshold was crossed. Below the threshold, voluntary registration is worth considering when customers are VAT-registered businesses and costs carry VAT.

Corporation Tax rates and marginal relief

Companies pay Corporation Tax at 19% on profits up to £50,000 and 25% on profits over £250,000. Between those figures marginal relief applies, producing an effective rate that rises gradually and a marginal rate of 26.5% on each pound in the band. The thresholds are divided by the number of associated companies, so a director with two companies has thresholds of £25,000 and £125,000 for each.

Late filing penalties

Lateness is expensive in a way that compounds. For individuals, £100 immediately, then daily penalties, then percentage-based ones at six and twelve months, with interest running on unpaid tax throughout. For companies, Companies House penalties scale with delay and double on repeat, and HMRC adds its own for a late CT600. Filing on time is the cheapest tax planning there is.

Questions

Accounting Software Support questions from Sunderland

Can you fix VAT returns that were filed from the software wrongly?

Yes. We reconcile each filed return to the transactions, identify the errors, and correct them in the software and, where required, with HMRC through the next return or a formal error correction. The cleanup fee covers the software work; any HMRC correction is quoted separately before we start.

What if I want to do my own bookkeeping after setup?

That is exactly what the setup and training are for. Many clients keep their own books in the software we set up and come to us only for the year-end accounts and tax return, which is cheaper for them. We configure bank rules and automations so the routine work is mostly matching, not typing.

How long does setup or migration take?

A new setup is usually complete within three working days of receiving your details and last accounts. A migration takes one to two weeks depending on the volume of history and the state of the old data. A cleanup depends on how broken the file is, and we give you a timeline with the fixed quote.

Do I need Making Tax Digital-compatible software?

If you are VAT registered, yes, already. If you are a sole trader or landlord with qualifying income over £50,000, yes, since April 2026, with lower thresholds following. Every platform we set up is MTD-compatible and we authorise it with HMRC as part of the setup.

Can you move my history from my old software?

Yes. Migration from £199 brings across customers, suppliers, outstanding invoices and bills, the chart of accounts and historical transactions, typically for the current and previous financial years, with balances reconciled to the old system before it is closed. More history or very large files are quoted before we start.

What is a file cleanup and when do I need one?

When the bank has not reconciled for months, the suspense account has a large balance, there are duplicate transactions or customers, VAT returns in the software do not match what was filed, or the balance sheet contains figures nobody can explain. From £149 we reconcile, correct and document the file so it can be relied on.

Do you have an office in Sunderland?

No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve Sunderland and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for accounting software support is the same in Sunderland as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.

Is accounting software support in Sunderland really the same price as elsewhere?

Yes. The fee published on this page is what a client in Sunderland pays and what a client in any other part of England pays. It is confirmed in writing before work starts and the invoice matches the quote. Where a higher package applies because your situation is more complex, we say so at the quote stage, never afterwards.
