Tax deadline finder: every date your business must meet
Different businesses have different calendars. A sole trader has Self Assessment dates; a company has accounts, Corporation Tax and confirmation statement dates that depend on its own year end; an employer has monthly PAYE and annual P60 and P11D dates; a VAT-registered business has quarterly returns. This finder takes how you trade, your company's accounting reference date and incorporation date where relevant, and your VAT quarter, and lists every deadline falling in the next twelve months in date order. It uses the same deadline rules that appear at the top of every service page on this site. The output is a planning aid; HMRC and Companies House confirm your specific dates in their correspondence and online accounts.
Where the dates come from
Sole traders and partners work to the Self Assessment calendar: registration by 5 October after the tax year in which untaxed income began, online filing and the balancing payment by 31 January, and the second payment on account by 31 July. The tax year ends on 5 April, which is the last day for pension and allowance decisions. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax adds quarterly updates for those above the income threshold.
Companies have deadlines anchored to their own accounting reference date. Accounts are due at Companies House nine months after the year end, Corporation Tax is payable nine months and one day after it, and the CT600 is due twelve months after it. The confirmation statement is due within fourteen days of the anniversary of incorporation, or of the last statement date if that has been changed. A first set of accounts after incorporation is due 21 months from the incorporation date, which this tool approximates using the year end you enter.
Employers pay PAYE and National Insurance by the 22nd of the following month when paying electronically, give P60s to employees by 31 May, file P11Ds by 6 July and pay Class 1A National Insurance by 22 July. VAT-registered businesses file and pay one month and seven days after each quarter end, so the quarter to 31 March is due by 7 May.
Limits
The tool does not apply weekend or bank holiday adjustments, does not handle long or short accounting periods, instalment payments for large companies, annual accounting VAT schemes or CIS monthly returns, which are due by the 19th. Every service page on this site shows the specific deadlines for that service, and clients have every date diarised with reminders. The output is a planning aid, not advice; see the advice disclaimer.
