Local facts

About Ynysfach

Ynysfach is in Wales, Wales. Businesses in Wales file with the same HMRC and Companies House as England, and for now the Welsh rates of income tax equal the English ones, though the Senedd can vary them. The practical differences are Land Transaction Tax on property and Welsh-specific business support schemes, and company names and documents may be in Welsh.

Worth knowing

Rules that come up in this work

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

The biggest change to Self Assessment in a generation is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, now live for higher-earning sole traders and landlords and arriving for the rest in stages. Quarterly updates are due by 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May, built from digital records. The practical consequence is that spreadsheet-and-shoebox bookkeeping is ending for anyone above the threshold.

Late filing penalties

Penalties are the clearest reason to work to deadlines. A Self Assessment return one day late costs £100 regardless of whether any tax is due; three months late adds £10 a day. Late company accounts start at £150 and reach £1,500, and double if the previous year was also late. None of this is negotiable afterwards except through a narrow reasonable-excuse appeal.

Payments on account

Payments on account catch out most people in their second year of self-employment. HMRC assumes next year's tax will match this year's and collects half in January and half in July, in advance, on top of the balancing payment. If profits are dropping you can apply to reduce them, but reducing them too far attracts interest. We calculate the right figure rather than guessing.

The trading and property allowances

Small side incomes are covered by two £1,000 allowances, one for trading and one for property, which remove the need to register or report income below that level. Once income exceeds £1,000, the allowance can be used in place of expenses, a choice worth making deliberately: a freelancer with £900 of costs is better off with the allowance, one with £3,000 is not.

The Self Assessment calendar

Four dates govern Self Assessment: 5 October to register, 31 October for paper returns, 31 January to file online and pay, and 31 July for the second payment on account. Missing the January date triggers an automatic £100 penalty before any tax is even considered, so we treat it as the fixed point around which the rest of the year is planned.

Dormant companies

Companies formed to protect a name or hold a future business are dormant but not exempt: Companies House still expects dormant accounts within nine months of the year end and a confirmation statement annually with its £50 fee, and HMRC must be told the company is dormant or it will demand Corporation Tax returns. The filings are short, but the penalties for missing them are the same as for a trading company.

Director's loan accounts

Money taken from a company has to be something: salary, dividend, expense reimbursement or loan. If it is a loan and remains outstanding nine months after the year end, the company pays tax at the dividend higher rate on it until it is repaid. Clearing the balance with a properly declared dividend before the deadline, where reserves allow, is routine year-end work.

Questions

Limited Company Accounts questions from Ynysfach

What if my year end is awkward or I want to change it?

You can shorten your accounting period as often as you like and extend it once every five years, by filing form AA01 with Companies House. Extending a period can push the first filing deadline back. We advise on this before the first year end if it helps, at no extra charge.

What rate of Corporation Tax will my company pay?

Profits up to £50,000 are taxed at the 19% small profits rate, profits over £250,000 at the 25% main rate, with marginal relief in between so the effective rate rises gradually. The thresholds are divided by the number of associated companies, which catches directors who own more than one company.

Do you file with iXBRL?

Yes. Both Companies House and HMRC require accounts and computations in iXBRL format, which tags every figure electronically. We produce and validate the tagged files as part of the service; you never see or pay for this separately.

My company is dormant. Do I still need accounts?

Yes. A dormant company still files annual accounts with Companies House, in the simplified AA02 format, and a confirmation statement. Our dormant accounts fee is £49. HMRC usually does not require a CT600 once told the company is dormant, and we handle that notification.

Can you include my personal tax return?

The £389 bundle covers micro-entity accounts, the CT600 and the director's Self Assessment return together. It is cheaper than buying them separately and ensures the dividends and salary on the personal return match the company's records exactly.

Does the fee include Corporation Tax?

Yes. Both the £299 micro-entity and £449 small company packages include the Corporation Tax computation, the CT600 and electronic filing with HMRC. The standalone CT600 at £199 is for companies whose accounts are prepared elsewhere.

Is limited company accounts in Ynysfach really the same price as elsewhere?

Yes. The fee published on this page is what a client in Ynysfach pays and what a client in any other part of Wales pays. It is confirmed in writing before work starts and the invoice matches the quote. Where a higher package applies because your situation is more complex, we say so at the quote stage, never afterwards.

Do you have an office in Ynysfach?

No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve Ynysfach and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for limited company accounts is the same in Ynysfach as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.
