Why IGI
The IGI way of working, in The Heads
One fixed fee for limited company accounts in The Heads, agreed in writing before any work starts and never changed part-way through the job, however long it takes us.
We work to the HMRC and Companies House calendar, not an appointment diary. Clients in The Heads get reminders at 60, 30 and 7 days before each date that applies to limited company accounts.
We serve The Heads remotely by design: records by WhatsApp or email, drafts back for approval, filing electronic. The saving on premises is passed to you in the fee for limited company accounts.
Continuity matters in limited company accounts: the person who prepared last year's work for your The Heads business prepares this year's, and remembers what was agreed.
We explain limited company accounts in the words The Heads business owners use, not in accountant's shorthand, and we show our working so you can check it.
You stay in control of limited company accounts: drafts go to The Heads clients first, with the figures explained, and nothing leaves us until you say so.

Worth knowing
Rules that come up in this work
Closing a company
Voluntary strike-off is available only to solvent companies. One that owes money it cannot pay needs a creditors' voluntary liquidation through a licensed insolvency practitioner, and directors who dissolve an insolvent company face personal consequences. For a solvent company the process takes three to four months from filing the DS01, with notice to creditors and shareholders within seven days.
Switching accountants
You can switch accountant at any point in the year. The new firm requests clearance and your records from the old one, which cannot withhold your own documents though it may hold its own working papers until its fees are settled. Agent authorisations with HMRC and Companies House are transferred, and the next deadline is picked up without a gap.
Workplace pensions and auto-enrolment
Every employer must assess its workers for automatic enrolment from the first employee's start date. Those aged 22 to State Pension age earning over £10,000 a year must be enrolled into a qualifying pension with minimum contributions of 8% of qualifying earnings, at least 3% from the employer, and a declaration of compliance made to the Pensions Regulator within five months.
Employer National Insurance
The cost of an employee is more than the salary. Employer National Insurance at 15% above £5,000 a year, the 3% minimum pension contribution, holiday pay, equipment and management time all come on top. The Employment Allowance of £10,500 reduces the National Insurance for most employers with more than one person on the payroll.
The trading and property allowances
The first £1,000 of trading income and, separately, the first £1,000 of property income each year is tax free under the trading and property allowances. Below those figures no return is needed for that income. Above them you can deduct the £1,000 allowance instead of actual expenses if that is better, which suits side businesses and single-room lets with few costs.
Dormant companies
Dormancy is a status that is easy to lose. The strict rule is no accounting transactions other than share capital and Companies House fees, which means no bank account activity at all in practice. Fees should be paid personally by the director. A company that traded and has stopped becomes dormant only after its final trading accounts and tax return are filed and HMRC is told.
The 60-day property CGT return
Since April 2020 a gain on UK residential property must be reported and the tax paid within 60 days of completion through HMRC's dedicated service, separately from the annual return. Non-residents must report all UK land disposals in the same window whether or not tax is due. Getting the computation right first time matters because the figure is then carried into the Self Assessment.
Questions
Limited Company Accounts questions from The Heads
Do you file with iXBRL?
Yes. Both Companies House and HMRC require accounts and computations in iXBRL format, which tags every figure electronically. We produce and validate the tagged files as part of the service; you never see or pay for this separately.
My company is dormant. Do I still need accounts?
Yes. A dormant company still files annual accounts with Companies House, in the simplified AA02 format, and a confirmation statement. Our dormant accounts fee is £49. HMRC usually does not require a CT600 once told the company is dormant, and we handle that notification.
What happens if accounts are filed late?
Companies House penalties are automatic and double if you were late the previous year too: £150 up to one month late, £375 up to three months, £750 up to six months and £1,500 beyond that for a private company. HMRC adds £100 for a late CT600, rising with time. Our fee includes filing rescue at no extra charge if we have your records in time.
When are company accounts due?
Nine months after your accounting reference date for Companies House, and the Corporation Tax payment is due nine months and one day after the year end. The CT600 itself is due twelve months after the year end. A first set of accounts is due 21 months after incorporation. We track all of these and remind you.
What do you need from me to prepare the accounts?
Bank statements for the full year, sales and purchase records or your bookkeeping software login, details of any assets bought or sold, loans, and the previous year's accounts and CT600 if we did not prepare them. If your books are not kept, the "from bank statements" approach works but may move you to the small company fee.
What is the difference between micro-entity and small company accounts?
A micro-entity has turnover under £1 million, a balance sheet under £500,000 and up to 10 employees (thresholds from April 2025) and may file abbreviated accounts with very few notes, at our £299 fee. Companies above those limits but still "small" file fuller accounts with more disclosures, at £449. We confirm which you are from your figures.
How do I get started from The Heads?
Message us on WhatsApp or email with a sentence about your business and what you need. We reply in working hours with any questions and a fixed fee for limited company accounts. Once you confirm, we tell you exactly which records to send and the work begins. Most The Heads clients are set up within a day.
Which deadlines matter most for limited company accounts?
The next four dates that apply to limited company accounts are shown at the top of this page, calculated from today. For The Heads clients we diarise every one of them from the day you join and send reminders before each, so the work is done in good time rather than in the last week before a penalty.
