Management accounts in Swansea

Statutory accounts tell a Swansea business how last year went, nine months after it ended. Management accounts tell you how this month went, two weeks after it ended, with a commentary explaining why. We produce them from your bookkeeping on a fixed working day each period, for a published fee, with the adjustments that make the figures true.

Why Swansea businesses file with IGI

One fixed fee for management accounts in Swansea, agreed in writing before any work starts and never changed part-way through the job, however long it takes us.

We work to the HMRC and Companies House calendar, not an appointment diary. Clients in Swansea get reminders at 60, 30 and 7 days before each date that applies to management accounts.

We serve Swansea remotely by design: records by WhatsApp or email, drafts back for approval, filing electronic. The saving on premises is passed to you in the fee for management accounts.

Continuity matters in management accounts: the person who prepared last year's work for your Swansea business prepares this year's, and remembers what was agreed.

The output for Swansea clients is never just a form. It is the form, a one-page summary of what it says, and a note of the decisions it points to for management accounts.

Nothing is filed for Swansea until you have reviewed and approved it. You see the draft, you ask questions, you sign off, then we submit and send you the receipt.

About Swansea

Swansea is in Wales, in the SA1 postcode district, Wales. Businesses in Wales file with the same HMRC and Companies House as England, and for now the Welsh rates of income tax equal the English ones, though the Senedd can vary them. The practical differences are Land Transaction Tax on property and Welsh-specific business support schemes, and company names and documents may be in Welsh.

Worth knowing

Rules that come up in this work

CIS deductions

CIS turns construction subcontractors into advance taxpayers: a fifth of every labour payment goes to HMRC before they see it. Registering keeps the rate at 20% rather than 30%; gross payment status, for established businesses with a clean record, removes deductions altogether. The annual return is where the overpayment comes back, and filing it early brings the refund sooner.

Confirmation statements and identity verification

Companies House has tightened its requirements under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act: every company needs a registered email address and an appropriate registered office, every statement includes a lawful-purpose declaration, and every director and PSC must verify their identity. The confirmation statement, due annually with a £50 fee, is where most of this is confirmed.

Payments on account

If your Self Assessment bill exceeds £1,000 and less than 80% of your tax was collected at source, HMRC asks for two advance payments towards the following year, each half of the current bill, due 31 January and 31 July. The first year this happens the January payment is effectively one and a half times the bill. We model it in advance and show you how to reduce the payments if income is falling.

The Self Assessment calendar

Self Assessment runs on a fixed annual cycle. Registration by 5 October following the tax year, online filing and payment by 31 January, and a second instalment on 31 July for those making payments on account. The penalties for lateness are automatic and escalate monthly, which is why we file early and chase approvals well before the window closes.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

The biggest change to Self Assessment in a generation is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, now live for higher-earning sole traders and landlords and arriving for the rest in stages. Quarterly updates are due by 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May, built from digital records. The practical consequence is that spreadsheet-and-shoebox bookkeeping is ending for anyone above the threshold.

Late filing penalties

Lateness is expensive in a way that compounds. For individuals, £100 immediately, then daily penalties, then percentage-based ones at six and twelve months, with interest running on unpaid tax throughout. For companies, Companies House penalties scale with delay and double on repeat, and HMRC adds its own for a late CT600. Filing on time is the cheapest tax planning there is.

Corporation Tax rates and marginal relief

Companies pay Corporation Tax at 19% on profits up to £50,000 and 25% on profits over £250,000. Between those figures marginal relief applies, producing an effective rate that rises gradually and a marginal rate of 26.5% on each pound in the band. The thresholds are divided by the number of associated companies, so a director with two companies has thresholds of £25,000 and £125,000 for each.

Questions

Management Accounts questions from Swansea

Can management accounts help with Corporation Tax planning?

Yes. Because the pack shows profit accruing through the year, decisions about capital expenditure, pension contributions and dividend timing can be made before the year end rather than discovered after it. We flag these opportunities in the commentary as they arise.

Will lenders and investors accept your management accounts?

Yes. Banks, invoice financiers and investors routinely ask for monthly management accounts as a condition of facilities or as part of due diligence, and our packs are in the format they expect. We can also produce the specific covenant calculations a facility requires.

What is the review call?

A 30 to 45 minute video call each period in the £199 package to go through the pack, discuss what it shows and what decisions it points to. It is the part clients value most, because numbers on a page do not ask questions and we do.

Can you compare against a budget?

Yes, if you have one. If you do not, we compare against the same period last year and, if you want one, help you build a simple budget as part of the first quarter. Variance against budget is the most useful single comparison in the pack once a budget exists.

Which KPIs do you report?

Those that drive your business, agreed at the start: gross margin by product or service line, revenue per employee, debtor days, stock turn, cash runway, utilisation for a service firm, average order value for a retailer. We recommend a short list and refine it over the first quarter. A dashboard with twenty numbers is one nobody reads.

When does the pack arrive?

On a fixed working day agreed with you, typically the 10th to 15th of the following month for monthly packs, provided the bookkeeping is complete by the 5th. Quarterly packs follow the quarter end on the same basis. If your records arrive late the date moves and we tell you.

How do I get started from Swansea?

Message us on WhatsApp or email with a sentence about your business and what you need. We reply in working hours with any questions and a fixed fee for management accounts. Once you confirm, we tell you exactly which records to send and the work begins. Most Swansea clients are set up within a day.

Which deadlines matter most for management accounts?

The next four dates that apply to management accounts are shown at the top of this page, calculated from today. For Swansea clients we diarise every one of them from the day you join and send reminders before each, so the work is done in good time rather than in the last week before a penalty.
