Why IGI
The IGI way of working, in Soroba
The price for self assessment tax returns is published on this page and is what a client in Soroba pays. We confirm it in writing first, and the invoice matches the quote.
Deadline-first: the dates that matter for self assessment tax returns are shown at the top of this page, diarised for every Soroba client and chased before they arrive.
Online only, UK based. There is no office in Soroba to pay for, which is why the fee is the same here as anywhere in Scotland; the work is done by people in the UK who answer the same day.
Continuity matters in self assessment tax returns: the person who prepared last year's work for your Soroba business prepares this year's, and remembers what was agreed.
Plain English, with the numbers. Every draft for Soroba comes with a short explanation of what the figures mean and what, if anything, you should do about them.
You stay in control of self assessment tax returns: drafts go to Soroba clients first, with the figures explained, and nothing leaves us until you say so.

About Soroba

Worth knowing
Rules that come up in this work
Employer National Insurance
The cost of an employee is more than the salary. Employer National Insurance at 15% above £5,000 a year, the 3% minimum pension contribution, holiday pay, equipment and management time all come on top. The Employment Allowance of £10,500 reduces the National Insurance for most employers with more than one person on the payroll.
Workplace pensions and auto-enrolment
Auto-enrolment duties begin the day you take on your first employee, not when the Pensions Regulator writes to you. Eligible staff must be enrolled, contributions paid every pay period and re-enrolment carried out every three years. Director-only companies without employment contracts are usually exempt. Fines for non-compliance are fixed and escalating.
Dormant companies
A dormant company is one with no significant accounting transactions in the year, where the only permitted entries are the payment for shares on incorporation, Companies House fees and penalties. It still files a confirmation statement and simplified dormant accounts every year. A bank charge or an accountant's fee paid from the company ends dormancy and requires full accounts.
The trading and property allowances
Small side incomes are covered by two £1,000 allowances, one for trading and one for property, which remove the need to register or report income below that level. Once income exceeds £1,000, the allowance can be used in place of expenses, a choice worth making deliberately: a freelancer with £900 of costs is better off with the allowance, one with £3,000 is not.
Crypto records and reporting
HMRC treats cryptoassets as property. Swapping one token for another, spending crypto or gifting it are all disposals for Capital Gains Tax, and staking and lending rewards are income. Gains are computed under pooling rules with same-day and 30-day matching. From 2026 HMRC receives data from exchanges worldwide under the Cryptoasset Reporting Framework, so unreported activity is increasingly visible.
The 60-day property CGT return
The 60-day Capital Gains Tax return on residential property is the deadline landlords most often miss, because it falls outside the Self Assessment cycle and runs from completion, not exchange. Private residence relief for periods you lived in the property, plus the final nine months, reduces the gain. Penalties for a late return mirror Self Assessment, starting at £100.
Record keeping
HMRC requires records of all income and expenses, bank statements, invoices and receipts to be kept for at least five years after the 31 January filing deadline of the tax year they relate to, and companies must keep records for six years from the end of the accounting period. Digital copies are acceptable. Under Making Tax Digital the records must be kept in compatible software.
Questions
Self Assessment Tax Returns questions from Soroba
What happens after you file?
You receive HMRC's submission receipt, a PDF of the return, the tax computation and a payment schedule with HMRC's bank details and your payment reference. We diarise next year's deadlines for you and send reminders before each one.
Will Making Tax Digital change my return?
From April 2026 sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 send quarterly updates to HMRC through software, with the £30,000 threshold following in April 2027. The year-end return becomes a final declaration. We set this up through our bookkeeping service when it applies to you.
I am employed and have a small side income. Do I need a return?
If the side income is under £1,000 a year the trading allowance covers it and no return is needed. Above that you must register and file. If the side income is the only reason for the return, the £129 package applies and we make sure your PAYE figures from the P60 are reconciled correctly.
I have never filed before. Do I need a UTR first?
Yes. If you have not registered we handle the registration as part of the job and HMRC posts your Unique Taxpayer Reference within about ten working days. Start early if your first deadline is close, because HMRC will not accept a return without it.
What if my return is late?
We file late returns at the £179 rescue fee, which includes drafting a reasonable-excuse appeal where the facts support one. The £100 automatic penalty is HMRC's, not ours, and we tell you honestly whether an appeal has a realistic chance before you pay for it.
What does the £129 return cover?
A full SA100 with the supplementary pages for one income source, prepared, checked and filed online. Rental income, capital gains or several income sources move you to the £169 or £199 package, and we tell you which applies before we start, never on the invoice.
Do you have an office in Soroba?
No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve Soroba and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for self assessment tax returns is the same in Soroba as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.
Is self assessment tax returns in Soroba really the same price as elsewhere?
Yes. The fee published on this page is what a client in Soroba pays and what a client in any other part of Scotland pays. It is confirmed in writing before work starts and the invoice matches the quote. Where a higher package applies because your situation is more complex, we say so at the quote stage, never afterwards.
