Locum accountants in Sipson

We do that reconciliation monthly, handle the NHS pension paperwork, and file the return. The fee is fixed and agreed in writing before you join.

Why IGI

What you get in Sipson

One fixed fee for locum accountants in Sipson, agreed in writing before any work starts and never changed part-way through the job, however long it takes us.

We work to the HMRC and Companies House calendar, not an appointment diary. Clients in Sipson get reminders at 60, 30 and 7 days before each date that applies to locum accountants.

We serve Sipson remotely by design: records by WhatsApp or email, drafts back for approval, filing electronic. The saving on premises is passed to you in the fee for locum accountants.

Continuity matters in locum accountants: the person who prepared last year's work for your Sipson business prepares this year's, and remembers what was agreed.

The output for Sipson clients is never just a form. It is the form, a one-page summary of what it says, and a note of the decisions it points to for locum accountants.

Nothing is filed for Sipson until you have reviewed and approved it. You see the draft, you ask questions, you sign off, then we submit and send you the receipt.

Worth knowing

Rules that come up in this work

Dormant companies

A dormant company is one with no significant accounting transactions in the year, where the only permitted entries are the payment for shares on incorporation, Companies House fees and penalties. It still files a confirmation statement and simplified dormant accounts every year. A bank charge or an accountant's fee paid from the company ends dormancy and requires full accounts.

Closing a company

A solvent company that has finished its purpose can be dissolved by voluntary strike-off: form DS01 with a £13 Companies House fee, after three months without trading and with all debts paid, final accounts and tax return filed, and assets distributed. HMRC objects to any application where returns or tax are outstanding, so the sequence matters more than the form.

Switching accountants

The main reasons people switch accountant are surprise invoices, missed deadlines and not understanding what they are being told. Switching involves a clearance letter between the firms, a transfer of records and agent authorisations, and a short handover of the current position. It takes about two weeks and should cost nothing extra.

Payments on account

If your Self Assessment bill exceeds £1,000 and less than 80% of your tax was collected at source, HMRC asks for two advance payments towards the following year, each half of the current bill, due 31 January and 31 July. The first year this happens the January payment is effectively one and a half times the bill. We model it in advance and show you how to reduce the payments if income is falling.

The Self Assessment calendar

The tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April. Anyone new to Self Assessment must register by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which their untaxed income began. The online return and the balancing payment are due by 31 January, with a second payment on account on 31 July where they apply. Paper returns have an earlier deadline of 31 October and are rarely sensible.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

MTD for Income Tax replaces one annual return with quarterly digital updates and a year-end declaration, submitted from software. The threshold is gross trading and property income, measured two years earlier, and started at £50,000 in April 2026 before falling to £30,000 in April 2027. Anyone affected needs digital record keeping in place before their start date, not after.

Late filing penalties

Penalties are the clearest reason to work to deadlines. A Self Assessment return one day late costs £100 regardless of whether any tax is due; three months late adds £10 a day. Late company accounts start at £150 and reach £1,500, and double if the previous year was also late. None of this is negotiable afterwards except through a narrow reasonable-excuse appeal.

Questions

Locum Accountants questions from Sipson

Do locum pharmacists and dentists have the same pension issues?

Dental associates and performers pension their NHS earnings through the dental pension arrangements with annual reconciliation statements; locum pharmacists generally have no NHS pension on locum income. Each profession has its own regime and we handle the specific paperwork for yours.

What is the annual-only option?

For £199 we prepare your Self Assessment from the records you keep yourself, including the reconciliation of your engagement income and pension contributions. It suits locums with a small number of regular engagements who are organised. If records are incomplete, the monthly package is usually better value.

I do private work alongside NHS sessions. How is that treated?

Private practice income is self-employment, not pensionable in the NHS scheme, and taxed with your other self-employed income. If the private work is substantial it may suit a limited company while the NHS locum work stays as a sole trader, and we advise on running both structures together.

Can you handle the NHS pension estimate of earnings and the Type 2 form?

Yes. The estimate of pensionable earnings submitted at the start of each year sets your contribution rate; the Type 2 certificate reconciles the actual figures after the year end and is due by the end of February. Both are prepared from the records we keep and submitted on your behalf.

How do you handle a mix of NHS employment and locum work?

Employment income is taxed through PAYE and shown on the employment pages; locum income is self-employment on the self-employment pages. The return brings them together and your marginal rate applies to the combined figure. Payments on account are often triggered by locum income on top of employment. We reconcile all sources.

Is travel between practices claimable?

For a locum working at many different sites, travel from home to each temporary place of work is generally allowable because there is no permanent workplace. For a regular session at the same practice over a long period, that site may become a permanent workplace and the travel ordinary commuting. We assess each engagement pattern.

How do I get started from Sipson?

Message us on WhatsApp or email with a sentence about your business and what you need. We reply in working hours with any questions and a fixed fee for locum accountants. Once you confirm, we tell you exactly which records to send and the work begins. Most Sipson clients are set up within a day.

Which deadlines matter most for locum accountants?

The next four dates that apply to locum accountants are shown at the top of this page, calculated from today. For Sipson clients we diarise every one of them from the day you join and send reminders before each, so the work is done in good time rather than in the last week before a penalty.
