Why IGI

The IGI way of working, in Cleveleys

No hourly rate and no surprise invoice. Cleveleys clients know the fee for management accounts before they send a single document, and it stays fixed.

Deadline-first: the dates that matter for management accounts are shown at the top of this page, diarised for every Cleveleys client and chased before they arrive.

Online only, UK based. There is no office in Cleveleys to pay for, which is why the fee is the same here as anywhere in England; the work is done by people in the UK who answer the same day.

You get one contact for management accounts, not a queue. Cleveleys clients message the same person throughout and get an answer in working hours, usually within a few hours.

We explain management accounts in the words Cleveleys business owners use, not in accountant's shorthand, and we show our working so you can check it.

You stay in control of management accounts: drafts go to Cleveleys clients first, with the figures explained, and nothing leaves us until you say so.

Worth knowing

Rules that come up in this work

The 60-day property CGT return

Since April 2020 a gain on UK residential property must be reported and the tax paid within 60 days of completion through HMRC's dedicated service, separately from the annual return. Non-residents must report all UK land disposals in the same window whether or not tax is due. Getting the computation right first time matters because the figure is then carried into the Self Assessment.

Crypto records and reporting

Most crypto holders have taxable events they do not recognise, because every swap is a disposal even when no pounds change hands. The computation requires the complete transaction history from every exchange and wallet, pooled by asset with HMRC's matching rules applied. Exchange-generated tax reports are frequently wrong because they cannot see transfers between a user's own wallets.

Allowable expenses

The expenses sole traders most often miss are home working costs, claimed by actual proportion or HMRC's flat rate, the business share of phone and internet, mileage at 45p for the first 10,000 business miles, and training that maintains existing skills. The ones most often claimed wrongly are commuting, entertaining customers and clothes that could be worn outside work.

Record keeping

Good records are the difference between a quick enquiry and a long one. For the self-employed, five years after the filing deadline; for companies, six years from the year end; for VAT, six years. Photographs of receipts, PDF statements and software exports all count. The requirement is to keep records, not paper, and a well-organised cloud folder satisfies it.

Workplace pensions and auto-enrolment

Auto-enrolment duties begin the day you take on your first employee, not when the Pensions Regulator writes to you. Eligible staff must be enrolled, contributions paid every pay period and re-enrolment carried out every three years. Director-only companies without employment contracts are usually exempt. Fines for non-compliance are fixed and escalating.

Employer National Insurance

Since April 2025 employer National Insurance has been 15% on earnings above a £5,000 secondary threshold, a substantial increase for small employers. The Employment Allowance rose to £10,500 at the same time to soften it for the smallest businesses. Directors deciding their own salary weigh this cost against the Corporation Tax deduction a salary provides.

The trading and property allowances

Small side incomes are covered by two £1,000 allowances, one for trading and one for property, which remove the need to register or report income below that level. Once income exceeds £1,000, the allowance can be used in place of expenses, a choice worth making deliberately: a freelancer with £900 of costs is better off with the allowance, one with £3,000 is not.

Questions

Management Accounts questions from Cleveleys

What is the review call?

A 30 to 45 minute video call each period in the £199 package to go through the pack, discuss what it shows and what decisions it points to. It is the part clients value most, because numbers on a page do not ask questions and we do.

Can you compare against a budget?

Yes, if you have one. If you do not, we compare against the same period last year and, if you want one, help you build a simple budget as part of the first quarter. Variance against budget is the most useful single comparison in the pack once a budget exists.

Which KPIs do you report?

Those that drive your business, agreed at the start: gross margin by product or service line, revenue per employee, debtor days, stock turn, cash runway, utilisation for a service firm, average order value for a retailer. We recommend a short list and refine it over the first quarter. A dashboard with twenty numbers is one nobody reads.

When does the pack arrive?

On a fixed working day agreed with you, typically the 10th to 15th of the following month for monthly packs, provided the bookkeeping is complete by the 5th. Quarterly packs follow the quarter end on the same basis. If your records arrive late the date moves and we tell you.

What adjustments do you make to the bookkeeping figures?

Accruals for costs incurred but not yet invoiced, prepayments for costs paid in advance, depreciation on fixed assets, stock movements where you hold inventory, and the Corporation Tax charge accruing. Without these the profit figure swings with payment timing and says little about performance.

Do I need bookkeeping with you to have management accounts?

It is simplest if we do the bookkeeping because the figures are current and we know the file, but we can produce management accounts from a well-kept file maintained by you or another bookkeeper. The pack is only as good as the bookkeeping, so if the records are behind we say so first.

How do I get started from Cleveleys?

Message us on WhatsApp or email with a sentence about your business and what you need. We reply in working hours with any questions and a fixed fee for management accounts. Once you confirm, we tell you exactly which records to send and the work begins. Most Cleveleys clients are set up within a day.

Which deadlines matter most for management accounts?

The next four dates that apply to management accounts are shown at the top of this page, calculated from today. For Cleveleys clients we diarise every one of them from the day you join and send reminders before each, so the work is done in good time rather than in the last week before a penalty.
