Limited company accounts in Broker
Running a limited company from Broker means two annual filings that have to agree with each other and with the director's own tax return. We prepare the accounts, the Corporation Tax computation and, in the bundle package, the director's Self Assessment, so the dividend figures match everywhere. One fixed fee, online, across Scotland.

Approval before filing is a rule, not a courtesy. For limited company accounts in Broker, every submission to HMRC or Companies House follows your written go-ahead.
Local facts
About Broker
Broker is in Scotland, Scotland. Tax in Scotland differs from the rest of the UK on earned income: six bands with a 21% intermediate rate and a 48% top rate, identified by an S prefix on the tax code. The interaction between Scottish rates on salary and UK rates on dividends makes the salary-and-dividend split for Scottish directors a distinct calculation, and Land and Buildings Transaction Tax replaces Stamp Duty.

Worth knowing
Rules that come up in this work
CIS deductions
The Construction Industry Scheme affects both sides of a construction payment. Contractors must verify subcontractors, deduct the right amount, issue statements and file monthly, with penalties from £100 for each late return. Subcontractors suffer deductions on turnover and recover the excess at the year end. Limited company subcontractors offset deductions against PAYE monthly instead.
Confirmation statements and identity verification
The confirmation statement is the annual check that the public register is right: officers, registered office, SIC codes, shareholders and the PSC register. It carries a £50 fee and no financial penalty for lateness, but failure to file leads to compulsory strike-off. The identity verification regime introduced in November 2025 has added a further check to every statement.
Closing a company
A solvent company that has finished its purpose can be dissolved by voluntary strike-off: form DS01 with a £13 Companies House fee, after three months without trading and with all debts paid, final accounts and tax return filed, and assets distributed. HMRC objects to any application where returns or tax are outstanding, so the sequence matters more than the form.
Switching accountants
You can switch accountant at any point in the year. The new firm requests clearance and your records from the old one, which cannot withhold your own documents though it may hold its own working papers until its fees are settled. Agent authorisations with HMRC and Companies House are transferred, and the next deadline is picked up without a gap.
The trading and property allowances
Not every small income needs a tax return. The trading allowance exempts the first £1,000 of self-employment or casual income and the property allowance does the same for rental income, each measured on gross receipts. They cannot be combined with rent-a-room relief on the same income, and claiming the allowance means giving up the expense deduction for that source.
Dormant companies
Companies formed to protect a name or hold a future business are dormant but not exempt: Companies House still expects dormant accounts within nine months of the year end and a confirmation statement annually with its £50 fee, and HMRC must be told the company is dormant or it will demand Corporation Tax returns. The filings are short, but the penalties for missing them are the same as for a trading company.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
The biggest change to Self Assessment in a generation is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, now live for higher-earning sole traders and landlords and arriving for the rest in stages. Quarterly updates are due by 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May, built from digital records. The practical consequence is that spreadsheet-and-shoebox bookkeeping is ending for anyone above the threshold.
Questions
Limited Company Accounts questions from Broker
Can you include my personal tax return?
The £389 bundle covers micro-entity accounts, the CT600 and the director's Self Assessment return together. It is cheaper than buying them separately and ensures the dividends and salary on the personal return match the company's records exactly.
Does the fee include Corporation Tax?
Yes. Both the £299 micro-entity and £449 small company packages include the Corporation Tax computation, the CT600 and electronic filing with HMRC. The standalone CT600 at £199 is for companies whose accounts are prepared elsewhere.
What is a director's loan account and why does it matter?
It records money moving between you and the company that is not salary or dividend. If you owe the company money at the year end and have not repaid it within nine months, the company pays 35.75% section 455 tax on the balance, refundable later. We review the account before finalising and tell you the options.
How do dividends work and how much can I take?
Dividends can only be paid from accumulated profits after Corporation Tax. We calculate the distributable reserves in your accounts and tell you the figure. Dividends need a board minute and a voucher each time; we provide templates. The personal tax on dividends depends on your other income, and the planning review covers that.
What do you need from me to prepare the accounts?
Bank statements for the full year, sales and purchase records or your bookkeeping software login, details of any assets bought or sold, loans, and the previous year's accounts and CT600 if we did not prepare them. If your books are not kept, the "from bank statements" approach works but may move you to the small company fee.
What is the difference between micro-entity and small company accounts?
A micro-entity has turnover under £1 million, a balance sheet under £500,000 and up to 10 employees (thresholds from April 2025) and may file abbreviated accounts with very few notes, at our £299 fee. Companies above those limits but still "small" file fuller accounts with more disclosures, at £449. We confirm which you are from your figures.
Is limited company accounts in Broker really the same price as elsewhere?
Yes. The fee published on this page is what a client in Broker pays and what a client in any other part of Scotland pays. It is confirmed in writing before work starts and the invoice matches the quote. Where a higher package applies because your situation is more complex, we say so at the quote stage, never afterwards.
Do you have an office in Broker?
No. IGI Accounting is an online-only firm. We serve Broker and every other UK postcode remotely, with records sent by WhatsApp or email and everything filed electronically. The absence of local premises is why the fee for limited company accounts is the same in Broker as anywhere else in the country, and why there is nothing to visit and nothing to print.
